2024

(Calgary) Maier dressed for all 18 games and started 15, completing 357 of 494 passes (a 72.3-per cent success rate) for 3,841 yards. He threw 22 touchdown passes and 14 interceptions and had a QB rating of 97.7. Maier also had 10 carries for 46 yards. Maier has four 300-yard games – he threw for 339 yards in Week 2 at BC, for 316 yards in Week 6 against the Blue Bombers, for 307 yards (to go with three touchdowns) in Week 7 against BC and for 373 yards in Week 10 at Toronto. In that Week 10 contest against the Argos, he surpassed the 10,000-yard in career passing. In Week 18 at BC, he surpassed the milestone of 1,000 career completions. In the regular-season finale in Saskatchewan, he threw for 293 yards and three touchdowns.

2023

(Calgary) Maier started all 18 regular-season games for the Stampeders and became the 10th player in franchise history to throw for 4,000 yards in a single season, finishing with 4,244 yards. He connected on 363 of 578 passes for a 62.8-per cent completion rate with 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Maier also established career highs in rushing with 26 carries, 108 yards and three touchdowns. He had five 300-yard games including a career-best 450 yards in a Week 7 home game against Ottawa. Maier became just the seventh player in Stampeders history to throw for at least 450 yards in a game. He also cracked the 300-yard plateau in Week 2 at Ottawa, in Week 6 at Saskatchewan, in Week 12 at Toronto and in the Labour Day Classic in Week 13 against Edmonton. Maier had a pair of four-touchdown games – against Ottawa in Week 7 and in Week 12 at Toronto. The Week 7 contest against the Redblacks featured the longest completion of Maier’s career – a 95-yard touchdown to Marken Michel. In the Western Semi-Final against BC, Maier completed 23 of 34 passes for 304 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

2022

(Calgary) Maier played all 18 regular-season games and made nine starts. He posted a 6-3 record in his nine starts and also helped Calgary win two games in a relief role. In Week 1 against Montreal, he replaced injured starter Bo Levi Mitchell and led the Stamps to a drive that led to a game-winning field goal in the final minute of play. In Week 11 against Toronto, he entered the game in the second half and completed 14 of 18 passes for 156 yards as the Stamps rallied for a victory. For the season, Maier completed 207 of 277 passes for a 74.7-per cent completion rate. He accumulated 2,389 passing yards and threw for 14 touchdowns with seven interceptions. He also carried the ball eight times for 47 yards. Maier had season highs of 301 passing yards and three touchdowns in a Week 15 game against BC. He started the Western Semi-Final against BC and completed 12 of 22 passes for 138 yards and had one carry for six yards.

2021

(Calgary) Maier played 11 games and made three starts. He completed 95 of 148 passes – a 64.2-per cent success rate – for 1,211 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions. He had three 300-yard passing games and was the first player in CFL history to crack the 300-yard milestone in each of his first three starts. Maier also carried the ball 16 times for 31 yards and two touchdowns and made one catch for six yards. Maier made his CFL debut in Week 3 and earned the victory as the starting quarterback against Montreal. In his second start, he set a franchise record by completing 17 consecutive passes. In Week 16, he helped the Stamps rally from a 12-point deficit with five minutes remaining in the contest to pick up a victory. The comeback included a 57-yard catch-and-run touchdown to Luther Hakunavanhu. Maier was in uniform for the Western Semi-Final and had one carry for one yard.

2020

(Calgary) Maier was under contract with the Stampeders but the season was cancelled because of the global pandemic.

Maier played 36 games over three seasons (2017-19) at the University of California, Davis. He completed 992 of 1,495 career passing attempts for 11,163 yards and 88 touchdowns with 33 interceptions. Maier was the Big Sky Conference’s newcomer of the year in 2017, and in 2018 he was the conference’s offensive player of the year and first-team quarterback. He played at Long Beach City College in 2016 and was first-team all-state after throwing for a league-leading 38 touchdowns and setting school records in TD passes and yards (3,689).

Personal

Maier is a graduate of St. Paul High School in Santa Fe Springs, Calif., and was a standout football and baseball player. He was a two-time captain in football and was the school’s athlete of the year as a senior.
