7 Things – Lions @ Stamps

1. Us

The Stamps enter Week 7, 2-3 on the season after a heartbreaking 41-37 loss in Winnipeg last week. Calgary will look to end a two-game slide when they host the BC Lions Sunday at 5 p.m. The Red and White are 2-0 at home to start the season with wins over Hamilton and Winnipeg.

2. Them

The Leos come to Calgary sporting a 5-1 record and a five game winning streak. BC hasn’t lost since the season opener against Toronto. Last week it was a 243-yard receiving performance from Justin McInnis that led the way to a 35-20 victory over Saskatchewan.

3. Head To Head

These two teams have already faced off once this season. The Stamps were in BC to battle the Lions in their home opener on June 15. The Lions took that back-and-forth battle by a 26-17 score. The Stamps and Lions will square off for a third and final time in BC Oct. 4.

4. Fast Facts

In a special halftime ceremony, Wally Buono – the architect of one of the most dominant runs in CFL history – will officially become the 50th member of the Stampeders Wall of Fame. Instituted in 1985, the Wall of Fame recognizes the great players and important off-field contributors in Stamps history.

Starting at 3 p.m., the Gridiron Gardens – located on the field immediately south of McMahon Stadium – will offer plenty of activities for the entire family:

  • Stampeders player autographs
  • Alumni autographs
  • Face painting
  • Yard games
  • BBQ food available for purchase
  • Live music with High Steppin Daddy
  • Performances by the Stampeders Hype Team and Stampeders Outriders
  • Sponsor activations

Thanks to our Director of Communications Jean Lefebvre for handing off these facts!

5. Who’s Where

6. Players to Watch

Stamps: DB Tre Roberson: Roberson has had a strong start to the 2024 season. He has three interceptions so far including two against the Bombers last time out. Roberson’s three interceptions have him sitting second in the CFL in that category heading into Week 7.

Lions:  WR Justin McInnis: McInnis enters this matchup leading the league in receiving yards with 725 in six games played. He also has the most receptions in the CFL tallying 45 this year. He is on pace to become the first Canadian receiver to lead the league in yards since Andy Fantuz in 2010.

7. Quotable

“You can’t get caught up in who you’re playing against. We know VA (Vernon Adams Jr.) is playing unreal, but at the same time I see it as we can beat a team and slap them back into reality. Everything that goes up must come down, and you don’t want a give a guy so much respect where it’s to the point where you fear him.

“It’s going to come down to consistency and everybody doing their 1/12. We don’t need any supermen, or anybody to do someone else’s job because when you try to accommodate for someone else, your job gets exposed.” – OL Trevon Tate on Sunday’s battle with the 5-1 Lions.
